It probably wasn't what he had in mind when he composed the song, but I'm inclined to think that Canadian crooner Daniel Powter's hit single "Bad Day" is a pretty apt description of how the folks at the Bush White House feel today. Maybe somebody should download the single to the preznit's iPod: it might help.
The bigger piece of news is that today Bush accepted the resignation of his chief of staff, Andrew Card. On top of that sobering news, however, and quite probably one of the major reasons for it, is the news that Holden gets (yet) another pony:
The replacement of the longest-serving chief of staff in the White House comes as the president's approval ratings have reached a two-term low: 33 percent in the latest survey of the independent Pew Research Center.
It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to learn that Andy Card had read the handwriting on the wall and decided to abandon the R.M.S. Titanic S.S. Bu$hCo before she took her final plunge beneath the frigid waters of the North Atlantic public dismay and disgust at just what a mess Bush and his cronies have made of this country--and in just five and a half short years! But of course Card couldn't say that, and Bush is unlikely to want it spread around.
I'll save you a little future heartache, Mr. President. Forget about your tax cuts. That boondoggle is deader than the hope of getting our forces out of Iraq while you're still president. Promoting your OMB director to White House COS isn't going to make a hill of beans' worth of difference in flogging that particular dead horse.
Heh, I just used Bad Day as the music for one of my lecture podcasts this week!
