Dick Martin, who played the straight man to Dan Rowan for five risqué years (1968-1973) on NBC in the salad days of my youth, died yesterday at the age of 86.
I remember watching Laugh-In when I was growing up, though it wasn't targeted to five-year-olds by any means. I don't recall getting all the jokes--but many of the sketches have held up well. My mom got a couple of DVDs of the first two seasons of Laugh-In for Christmas a couple of years ago, and we watched some of them that year and laughed ourselves silly. Not bad for 40-year-old comedy.
Will Martin be missed? To use his own catchphrase, "You bet your sweet bippy."
